Donaven is a fourth year Life Science undergraduate specialises in Biomedicine. Since young, he is intrigued by the interactions he could make with life forms from uni-cellular to organism level. He had completed an UROPs project on Influenza-induced autophagy in lung epithelial cells and now moved on to work on cancer cells for his FYP.

Back in college, he spends his time gardening with Urban Farmers at Tembusu Misty Garden. He showers TLC to the plants in return for their bountiful harvest at the end of every semester. He also befriends Misty who is the guardian of the garden.

If your fingers are not green, you can join him in food hunting around Clementi and Buona Vista instead. His love for local delicacies and DURIAN motivates him to hop around Singapore and even JB. To compensate for his indulgences, he plays dodgeball till late every Wednesday.

His hobbies revolve mainly around oriental culture from playing bamboo flute in Chinese Orchestra to Chinese Chess and Mahjong.

The Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans) is a large evergreen tree in the family Gentianaceae. It is native to Southeast Asia. Its trunk is dark brown, with deeply fissured bark, looking somewhat like a bittergourd. It grows in an irregular shape from 10 to 25m high. Its leaves are light green and oval in shape. Its yellowish flowers have a distinct fragrance and the fruits of the tree are bitter tasting red berries, which are eaten by birds and fruit bats.
