Ms. Andria Tan

Resident Assistant Tembusu College National University of Singapore

Andria is a second year Psychology major (Fun fact: She took Psychology as a diploma back in Temasek Polytechnic as well). You would think that after she realised that Psychology actually leans more towards science than art or for the fact that it does not actually provide her with the ability to read minds, it would have deterred her from ever wanting to write a research paper or run any statistical analyses ever again in university. Instead, she found great joy and satisfaction from this field of study as she firmly believes that research along with relevant theories, can help improve existing programs and processes which can indirectly help people and improve their lives in the bigger scope of things.

Don’t get her wrong, while Andria may sound like she drowns herself in a myriad of research articles and textbooks to achieve her rather idealistic goal, she feels it’s more important to strike a balance and enjoy life too! She greatly enjoys sports and is always excited to pick up new ones (see if you can spot her playing Ultimate Frisbee with the College Interest Group, Barefoots, at the U Town Green). She has always enjoyed travelling as well, but has lately developed an interest in trekking which took her to the Himalayas during the last winter break that she described as simply AMAZING. Other than being outdoors most of the time, Andria enjoys reviewing videos and occasionally makes (amateur) travel vlogs which she hopes to improve on in due time. If not, she’ll be browsing through Instagram or Facebook in the hunt for cute animal videos.

Andria may not be a tall human, but her experience at Tembusu iduring her first year was nothing short of fun and fulfilling. After having served in the Shan house committee the previous year, Andria is now excited to join the Residential Team to continue to be part of creating “a home away from home” with other fellow residents :-) Aside from asking her to catch flying insects in your room, watch a horror movie, or take something from a high-up-ish location, feel free to ask her about anything!! She just wants to be that friend who is always up for a good chat and desserts B-)

The Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans) is a large evergreen tree in the family Gentianaceae. It is native to Southeast Asia. Its trunk is dark brown, with deeply fissured bark, looking somewhat like a bittergourd. It grows in an irregular shape from 10 to 25m high. Its leaves are light green and oval in shape. Its yellowish flowers have a distinct fragrance and the fruits of the tree are bitter tasting red berries, which are eaten by birds and fruit bats.
