Ms Hashimah Begum

Resident Assistant Tembusu College National University of Singapore

Hashimah is a fourth-year undergraduate who is pursuing a double major in Psychology and Social Work due to her curiosity about human behaviour and passion for service. Her interests lie in a plethora of things - from enjoying the occasional hike and cycle through the city to curling up by the screen to watch re-runs of Criminal Minds and Greys' Anatomy, Hashimah loves to explore a multitude of topics and learn new things about the world around her.

Hashimah's first two years in Tembusu revolved greatly around her House and the College, where much of her beloved memories involve late nights scrambling to ensure that logistics and food are all prepped for the various events being hosted. She would not trade anything to replace these hectic and mildly chaotic times for they allowed for beautiful friendships and unforgettable moments to be forged with her batchmates. Beyond her roles in the House Committee and the College Students' Committee, Hashimah finds herself seeking adventure and spontaneity. After all, her one rule keeping her afloat and sane through the hustle and bustle of University is to do something, anything, every day that makes her happy. Sometimes this includes scrolling through tik-tok and sending particularly hysterical ones to friends (spreading the joy!) and other times it could be cycling to Hindhede Quarry. Either ways, feel free to join her for a little laughter and adventure!

One of the many things that Hashimah loves about the college would be the never-ending list of activities going on. As for herself, she is involved in tMentors and occasionally signs-up for either sewing, baking, or dancing with Yarn and Doodles, tBakes and tembolly. As the new academic year approaches, she looks forward to seizing more opportunities to broaden her horizon - by exploring more Interest Groups and attending the numerous thought-provoking teas and forums.

Hashimah loves to meet new people and explore new things. From hearing new opinions and perspectives to trying out new hobbies, she enjoys pushing at her comfort zone and challenging herself. More than anything, she loves conversations and putting a smile on your face so expect many jokes, random thoughts, and the occasional invite to do something a little crazy. Her door will always be open, feel free to approach her anytime!

The Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans) is a large evergreen tree in the family Gentianaceae. It is native to Southeast Asia. Its trunk is dark brown, with deeply fissured bark, looking somewhat like a bittergourd. It grows in an irregular shape from 10 to 25m high. Its leaves are light green and oval in shape. Its yellowish flowers have a distinct fragrance and the fruits of the tree are bitter tasting red berries, which are eaten by birds and fruit bats.
