Speaker: Douglas MacLean is the Founder and Executive Director of Justice Without Borders (JWB).
An expert in both international and domestic laws in the region, Douglas has coordinated legal teams that have secured landmark victories in Hong Kong’s high court that now allows workers to attend court from their home countries via video conferencing, as well as settlement pay-outs for workers who have faced abuse, discrimination and exploitation by bad employers or employment agencies. From securing the organization’s first case in 2014, he now oversees a portfolio of over 50 cases, with 800 case screenings completed in the last three years alone.
Douglas also leads his team to run training programs in migrant worker exploitation cases for a growing cohort of pro bono lawyers and oversees a growing capacity building program for frontline community organizations in JWB’s target jurisdictions.
