The Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans) is a large evergreen tree in the family Gentianaceae. It is native to Southeast Asia. Its trunk is dark brown, with deeply fissured bark, looking somewhat like a bittergourd. It grows in an irregular shape from 10 to 25m high. Its leaves are light green and oval in shape. Its yellowish flowers have a distinct fragrance and the fruits of the tree are bitter tasting red berries, which are eaten by birds and fruit bats. Source: Tembusu, Wikipedia

Jolovan Wham is the Executive Director and a founding member of the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME), a Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to the rights and welfare of low wage migrant workers in Singapore. The organisation runs shelters, help desks, legal aid, skills training, health initiatives and undertakes research and advocacy campaigns.

Jolovan obtained a Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work from the National University of Singapore and has helped spearhead many of HOME’s current initiatives. He has an interest in human rights, minority issues and civil liberties. He also co-founded Workfair Singapore, an initiative which was involved in advocating for the rights of workers in the SMRT Bus Strike and the Little India Riot.
