Loritta Chan is a geographer who specialises in children and young people’s geographies, livelihoods and sustainable cities. She broadly explores the intersections of social and environmental issues within cities, and is particularly interested in how different communities of diverse, intersectional identities experience and (re)imagine what an inclusive, sustainable urban environment means to them.
Her past and current research topics include: the livelihoods of waste-picker families in Delhi, socio-environmental impacts of post-war infrastructure in Sri Lanka, shaping inclusive cities for young people in Brazil and India, and participatory methodologies in research with young people.
Loritta received her Ph.D. in Human Geography from the University of Edinburgh, M.A. in South Asian Studies from the University of Washington, and B.A. in Economics and Asian Studies from the University of Michigan. Loritta held postdoctoral fellowships in both the UK and Hong Kong.
