Master’s Tea with Senior Minister of State Indranee Rajah
Ms Indranee Rajah was educated at Raffles Institution in Singapore, and read law at the National University of Singapore. She was appointed Senior Counsel in 2003 and was the Deputy Head of Drew & Napier’s Dispute Resolution Department until October 2012, when she left to join the government.
Ms Rajah has been the Member of Parliament for the Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since 2001. She was a Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2006 to 2011.
She was appointed Senior Minister of State for Law and Education on 1 Nov 2012. Under her law portfolio she chaired the Steering Committee on the strategic direction of Singapore’s third law school at UniSIM, and co-chaired the Committees on Family Justice and on the formation of the Singapore International Commercial Court with then-Judge of Appeal VK Rajah. She is currently co-chairing the committee on Strengthening Singapore as a Restructuring Hub with Judicial Commissioner Mr. Kannan Ramesh.
In her education portfolio she led the Committee for Applied Studies in Polytechnics and ITE (ASPIRE). The ASPIRE report resulted in SkillsFuture, a national movement which sets a new direction in aligning education with economic demand, career guidance and lifelong learning.
Student’s Workshop “Getting to know your voice”
Ever wanted to learn how to effectively project and use your voice in presentations, stage performances, and singing? This workshop is for you! Come and learn breath and vocal techniques that will help you achieve a more resonant, balanced and healthy speaking/singing voice. The session will be facilitated by Jingyun, who is a Year 2 Music student currently studying Classical Vocal Performance at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.

Biography of Speakers:
Dr Mohamed Bin Ali is Assistant Professor at Studies in Inter-Religious Relations in Plural Societies (SRP) Programme, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. His areas of research include Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamist ideology, religious extremism, inter-religious relations and rehabilitation of Muslim extremists.
Well-versed in Arabic language and Islamic knowledge, Dr Mohamed obtained his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Islamic Jurisprudence from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt in 2002, Masters of Science (MSc) in International Relations at RSIS, NTU in 2007 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Arab and Islamic Studies from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom in 2013. Prior to that, he studied Islam and Arabic language at Aljunied Islamic School in Singapore from 1990-1995. Dr Mohamed also graduated with a Specialist Diploma in Counseling Psychology from Academy of Certified Counselors, Singapore in 2006.
Since 2003, Dr Mohamed has been involved in the rehabilitation programme of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) detainees in Singapore. He is the Vice-Chairman and counsellor of the Religious Rehabilitation Group (RRG), a group of voluntary Muslim clerics that provide religious counselling to the JI detainees. Dr Mohamed has lectured and made numerous presentations locally and abroad; conducted courses and published widely on Islamic issues and issues of religious extremism and terrorist rehabilitation. He has also conducted field trips in many countries including Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bangladesh, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Dr Mohamed is also actively involved in community-related works. He is currently Member of the Syariah Appeal Board of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) and Member of Khadijah Mosque Management Board. Dr Mohamed was a former President of the Singaporean Students Welfare Assembly in Cairo, former Member of Council for Asian Terrorism Research and counselor at the Singapore Prison Department. He has also delivered lectures and sermons in many mosques in Singapore.
For the Tembusu Forum, Dr Mohamed will talk about ISIS as a political movement and its attraction to young Muslims around the world.
Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir is currently Deputy Director of the Office of the Mufti, Singapore. He has recently completed his D.Phil at St Cross College, Oxford, in the comparative study of the Abrahamic religions. His dissertation investigates the geneology of the concept, particularly in the works of the French Islamicist, Louis Massignon. Prior to that, he completed postgraduate work in comparative law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (MA with distinction), and the study of religion at Oxford (MSt). His first degree is in Islamic law from the Al-Azhar University, Cairo.
For the Tembusu Forum, Dr Nazirudin will discuss the history of the caliphate and the merit of the claim by ISIS to establish a new caliphate.

Ms Farah is the Executive Director of Sustainable Living Lab (SL2), a social innovation lab aiming to build a sustainable future through community building, and technology experimentation. Ms Farah also leads the Repair Kopitiam, a community-based movement to combat a buy-and-throw away culture through repair.
Ms Farah will share her experiences working in her area of passion – Sustainability. Having worked with different people from organisations, schools and the general public, Ms Farah has access to different perspectives of sustainability which she will share along with her personal experiences.
Students can also learn how they, as individuals, can contribute to a sustainable life and society.

Student’s Tea with Mr Kan Lumé

Kan Lumé is one of Singapore’s most prolific filmmakers, having written, directed and produced several TV programmes for Channel 5, 8 and Art Central. Kan’s films have also won several awards- his debut feature film, The Art of Flirting, was named Best ASEAN Feature at the 2005 Malaysian Video Awards, competed for Best Film in the Jeonju International Film Festival under Digital Spectrum and was chosen as an Official Selection for over a dozen film festivals worldwide. His second feature SOLOS, was nominated for the silver screen awards at the Singapore International Film Festival 2007 and is the first local film to be in competition at the prestigious AFI Los Angeles. Kan will be screening some of his shorts – Study of a Singaporean Face, Libertas and Boy in Jogja – alongside a sharing session on filmmaking, cinematography, and creative freedom of expression in Singapore.
